What is Keyword Research ?

Keyword research is a practice of search engine optimization (SEO) professionals used to find and research search terms that users enter into search engines when looking for products, services, or general information. Keywords can be classified into 2 categories : 

Short 

Long


Short Tail Keywords are those that usually have 1 to 3 words for eg. pizza, credit card, etc. These keywords are highly competitive with a lot of sites ranking for it and have very high search volume. They may not always lead to bringing a lot of traffic to your page.


Long Tail Keywords are those that may contain more than 3 words to short sentences for eg, how to make coffee, what is a good movie to watch, etc. They have low search volume and low competition and may lead to bringing a good amount of traffic onto your page.


Search Intent is an important concept to understand when talking about keyword research. This is what the user is hoping to find when entering a query into the search engine for eg. when you search for “barbers near me” you are expecting the search engine to show what barbers are nearby your location. Understanding this helps you put content that is relevant to the user and enables your page to rank higher in SERP’s.
